Anonymous asked me:Hey i like your blog and saw on your twitter you're doing as media exam tomorrow, i am too, but a resit (im in the year above) apparently the whole paper is different and ive only just found out! could you help me out by telling me what questions im going to be asked? im so confused! i know the first part is a written bit about whatever you are shown on a dvd, but i dont know the other section?
Hello :) good job I get my asks emailed to me otherwise I wouldn’t have seen this until after the exam! haha
Okay well basically, question 1 is out of 40 marks and it’s an audio visual based exam this year - so we will be shown one or a selection of short extracts/adverts and asked to analyse them commenting on visual codes, technical codes, audio codes, genre, narrative etc (it will only be 3 of these, and it will specific which!)
As for question 2, it is split up into three parts. Part a) is only worth 4 marks and it usually asks something along the lines of identify two ways in which a specific type of person is represented, or identify two different audiences for the text etc. Part b) is worth 10 marks and pretty much just asks you to expand on what you wrote in part a) - so it will say focus on one of the two things you mentioned and explore it in more detail or something.
Then part c) of this question is where things start to get a little complicated haha, Basically, this question is often swapped around with the 3rd question, so I can’t really predict which one will be worth the most marks. :S but in short, for the remaining two questions (2c and 3), one will ask you about different audience responses to a text or how a text targets different audiences, and the other question will name a specific representation category (e.g. men, women, issues, events, age etc) and ask you to state how they are represented in the media (in both you will need to refer to 2/3 detailed examples of your own texts). One will be a 16 mark and the other will be a 30 mark question. But like I say, I’m not sure which!
I hope this helps but if there’s anything else you’re stuck with or I haven’t explained something properly then just ask again :) alternitively DM me on twitter as it will come through to my phone so I’ll see it immediately :P
Good luck for tomorrow! :)
